Castles

Arrow slits are windows in a castle wall. They are for archers to shoot enemies with bow and arrow. The walls were cut away so they can shoot their enemies.   A portcullis is a heavy door that keeps enemies out. If they were under it they would be squashed!   A moat is a deep river that surrounds a castle. It's job is to drown enemies. Davy Crockett and the Liberty Bell

I listened to the song Davy Crockett yesterday and it made us wonder about him. Daddy and I have done some research to find out more...   Wikipedia is a great place to find out information about people. It says that he was born in 1786 and died in 1836 which makes him 50 when he died. It also says he was known as "King of the Wild Frontier".   He was Irish, English, Scottish, French and American!   He was a politician from Tennessee but died fighting at the Alamo.  What's the Alamo? I went to a memorial service today

The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month... That is when the First World War ended. We have silence for two minutes to remember all of the people who died in war. Loads of animals died as well. Do you know why poppies are red? To remind us of the blood that was spilt.

How they put shapes into fireworks

Yesterday we looked at how they put colour into fireworks, and Tracey then asked a question about how people can get shapes into fireworks. We have found out that you have to put cardboard that is in a shape into the rocket and some stars, and when you launch and it explodes it will appear in that shape. Fireworks

I wanted to find out how fireworks get their colour. I have found that it is different metals inside the firework that burn in different colours. For example, potassium burns pink, copper was green an sodium is yellow. I found out from this video And I love these fireworks!
